Pale Blue Dot by Carl Sagan
The sentence that spoke to me the most was, "Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot". This is the sentence that spoke to me the most because it really got me thinking. I had to read this sentence over again and it made me think about how crazy this sounds. If you think of it by just seeing Earth it is a whole bunch of land that they took over. Then I thought about it by being in space and thought that the land they claimed was just barely speck of the universe. This made me feel quite strange because this means that the land that I am living on is barely a fraction of a dot. If you think about us fighting ISIS it means a lot to win and rule, but then we are just a small dot and we are fighting for just barely a fraction of that. This to me now means that there is so much left to explore in our galaxy and way more out in the universe. These are the reasons why that sentence made me stop and think about Earth compared to our universe and the land that we have claimed and are fighting for.
